JP THIBODEAU

A rich tapestry of remarkable performances, innovative design, and inspiring direction has marked JP's journey in the theatre world. Having graced both on-stage and off-stage roles globally, he currently holds the esteemed position of Artistic Director at StoryBook Theatre.

Under his visionary guidance, StoryBook Theatre has flourished into one of Canada's premier volunteer-driven Theatres. His collaborative work with playwright and composer Joe Slabe has given birth to numerous world premiere musicals, including Lest We Forget, Urban Jungle Book, and Twas the Night Before Christmas, along with award-winning productions like Touch Me: Songs for a Disconnected Age and the Naughty But Nice series of holiday performances.

JP's career also boasts an impressive array of directed musicals ranging from intimate productions to grand spectacles fueling local talent development in Calgary and beyond.  In 2019, he added the director of Queen’s all-Canadian North American tour of their musical ‘We Will Rock You' to his list.

In recognition of his matchless contributions to Musical Theatre, JP is honoured as a Greg Bond Memorial Award recipient. He was also shortlisted twice for the prestigious Rozsa Award, and he has been honoured with multiple Calgary Critic's Choice Awards and several Betty Mitchell Award Nominations, attesting to his finesse in theatre arts.

His expansive repertoire comprises both on- and off-stage credits, such as 'Sweeney Todd,' 'Something Rotten,' The Little Mermaid (StoryBook), 'Ragtime' (Theatre Calgary), 'As You Like It,' Romeo & Juliet (The Shakespeare Co.), ' Reasons to Be Happy' (Ground Zero), 'Annie Davidson,' and The Magic Flute' (Cowtown Opera), among many others.

A proud holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and Drama in Education, JP balances his passion for theatre with treasured moments shared with his loving wife, Tara, and their sons, Evan Xander and Isaac Tanner, who remain his strong pillars amidst demanding hours spent fostering theatrical expression.
